According to a brief blurb on the KWWL website, Iowa State has become the leader for the services of Royce White, the troubled but talented former Minnesota Gopher. Reports just a couple of weeks ago seemed like White to Kentucky was a pretty good bet, but apparently White may end up elsewhere.
The story does say that Kentucky, along with Baylor and Iowa State are still in the running, but that White visited with new Cyclone coach Fred Hoiberg earlier in the week. A decision is expected in the next few weeks.
On second thought, Iowa State would seem to be a pretty good destination for White. He would not be thrust into the rock star status he would have faced if he landed in Lexington, and although I have nothing personally against White, feel this is a good thing for Kentucky.
True, White is a talent, but he also had considerable baggage. And Kentucky is at a place where they can have any player in the country they want … and with TMZ, the Weekly World News, and other tabloid writers such as Pat Forde following their every move, Kentucky needs to make sure that the new recruits are lilly white clean.
