Who is Kentucky's #1 celebrity fan? #2 Eddie Montgomery vs #7 Josh Hopkins

by Paul Jordan

Wow. Kentucky fans like Ashley Judd. They really like Ashley Judd.

UK fans handed Ashley Judd a resounding victory by shutout over Big Ben Roethlisberger in the Kentucky Celebrity Fan Tournament over the weekend. It’s not a huge shock that Judd won, and the 122-2 margin showed that Judd will be hard to beat in this tournament.

OK.  Confess.  Who were the two Big Ben fans?

Today, we take a look at the #2 vs #7 seeding which should be another blowout and things really get interesting on Wednesday when Drake enters the tourney, and King LeBron later this week.   But as for now, let’s take a look at today’s matchup. And as always … no wagering.

#2 EDDIE MONTGOMERY

I have to admit that Eddie Montgomery is not especially my cup of tea but there are some in the Kentucky that make the case for him being Kentucky’s #1 fan.  Kentucky born and raised, Montgomery has said that he is “Big Blue Madness! Most people get a pacifier when they’re born. I got a basketball and a bottle of Jim Beam.”  Montgomery, of course, if one half of the country duo Montgomery Gentry for those that did not know.

Montgomery made his appearance felt at a few Wildcat football games but the real debut as superfan came at Big Blue Madness.  There he teamed with UK hoops coach Matthew Mitchell to be a celebrity coach for the festivities.  Montgomery was a constant at Rupp this year and even made some appearances at Memorial Coliseum to support both the guys and gals.  I know that Larry Vaught is a big Montgomery fan, but is it enough to be the number one celebrity?

#7   JOSH HOPKINS

Until this season, Josh Hopkins was an undistinguished actor to most Kentucky fans, despite being the son of former US Representative Larry Hopkins and a graduate of Lexington’s Sayre School.  Regardless, he toiled in such forgettable TV fare as “Vanished” and “Pushing Daisies” for over a decade before being cast on Courtney Cox’s “Cougartown”.  And then Big Blue history was made as he did the “John Wall Dance” on national television on at least two occasions.

This has already put him in the tournament with a win over the Papa John’s guy, but is that enough to advance him to the Final Four?

As always, vote in the box on the upper right and we will have another matchup on Wednesday as we see whether new Cali-fan Drake can unseat Kenny Perry
