All I can say that it is a good thing that highly paid bloggers are not required to disclose their HS or college GPA’s in order to continue in this lucrative profession. I distinctly remember floating through my time at MNHHS with a barely above “C level” GPA for say the first two and a half years of my HS career, before I got more serious about school and drastically improved my academic status the last year and a half. Does this scenario sound familiar to anyone? Maybe half my reading public?
Thinking back, I am almost certain I received improper benefits in HS as well. I distinctly recall being offered “Journalism 2” and “Journalism 3”, which was in effect, a made up course with no grades or tests — but these classes allowed me to continue my career as Sports Editor for the sadly now defunct North Star newspaper. I also distinctly recall my mother typing a lot of my articles for me as my still in use two finger typing method took way to long to finish stories. In retrospect, could this part of the reason the “North Star” is now defunct?
Someone call Pete Thamel of the New York Times.
I’m sure most of us can look back at our high school years and think of at least one good grade we curried because we made the teacher think they were cool …. or that we were able to throw ourselves at the mercy of the teacher to get that better grade. I recall engaging in a debate with my debate teacher on how I should get a “B” for the course rather than a “C” due to the fact a “C” would severely crimp my summer driving privileges. I won, the grade was changed, and everyone’s world went on happily.
If you actually look at the Eric Bledsoe “transgressions” you can see how truly lame and insignificant they truly are. I would wager that almost 85% of all NCAA football and basketball players have, at some time in HS, received a grade or two that was not entirely by the books. Not saying anything nefarious is up and an overhaul is needed, but a lot of HS grades are subjective, and are tweaked for people who are not star athletes.
It seems that this whole grade snafu got ex UK Wildcat Joe Crawford thinking about his high school years as well as he sent out the following tweets the other night:
RT @jcraw55: Man thinkin about high school at Renn my freshman year!! Reading in front of the class was the worst LOLlol
I remember I use 2 be a struggle 2 get a 2.5 at renn
@mstout12 u remember mrs. Johnson class haha I gotta D hahaha
Add them grades up and divide it by 7 damn I only got 14 points my ass bout 2 get tapped in 105.
I was on computer 35 too hahaha I couldn’t type for sh**.
Who remember I snuck on the teachers computer and changed my grade to 181 percent I got in so much trouble
Aw crap. Maybe I said too much. I hear Pete Thamel has booked a flight to do an investigation of Crawford’s grades at Renaissance High School and is prepared to browbeat the nefarious Ms. Johnson about whether Crawford really deserved that “D” grade or not. Maybe that 181 average will be called into question.
Well played, Thamel. Sure this will get you your Pulitzer.
