Seriously, what is it going to be like when John Calipari actually wins a national title? I tell ya, some people’s heads are going to explode. The hater-ade continues to flow at high levels after John Calipari’s getting commitments from Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague this week. The latest dose comes courtesy of “national columnist” Terrence Moore of the NCAA Basketball Fanhouse.
Apparently Terrence has never heard of the one and done player before and the fact that players have left for the NBA after just one season long before John Calipari landed at Kentucky. But Terrence takes his pent up frustration of his favorite team not getting John Wall-DeMarcus Cousins-Eric Bledsoe-Daniel Orton-Brandon Knight-Enes Kanter-Doron Lamb-Michael Gilchrist-Marquis Teague and unloads on John Calipari calling him “John Calisleazy” and bashing UK for accepting commitments from *gasp* juniors in high school.
He also takes offense at the term “student athlete” and proving that he knows absolutely nothing about Brandon Knight and apparently has never read an article about Brandon Knight the last two years as he declares Knight “already is close to having one sneaker out of the Wildcats’ door”. Obviously he knows nothing of Knight’s academic track record and the fact that he already has a year of college courses under his belt and with summer school, could conceivably graduate after just two seasons at UK.
The whole article lacks credibility when Moore, who apparently is a mole on the UK campus, makes the comment that “John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton finished their freshman seasons with the Wildcats, dropped by a few classrooms on campus — well, theoretically — and then bolted to the NBA.”
Really? You have inside knowledge of this?
Moore then goes off on a general tangent on the NCAA and graduation rates and then launches into the Calipari hate some more. It’s pretty hard to take the guy seriously because he wants to take on a valid issue (the whole one and done rule) yet has too much coherent Cali-rage to even make a coherent post.
I love how Calipari is castigated in this article, yet other coaches with the one and dones or that recruited the same players that became one and dones (Roy, Pitino, Self, Coach K, eand every other Division one coach that would have taken John Wall) are given a free pass.
Look, the NBA rule requiring that a player be out of HS for a year before being able to enter the draft sucks. But as long as that rule is around, there will be one and dones. And if the rule gets amended to two years, there will be two and dones. Calipari did not invent the rule, yet he gets lambasted for signing the best available players in the country. It’s ridiculous.
Yet the Calii-hate continues to flow. You would think that eventually these haters would realize how Dan Wolkenish the are (and it’s not a good look) by their simple minded bashing. But alas, no hope of that.
Like the t-shirt says, UK fans must continue to embrace the hate.
