No matter what happens in a few hours, the state of Kentucky will anticipate, watch, realize, and at the end become exhausted. When Marquis Teague announces his college destination tomorrow, the state will either be bleeding blue, or it will be bleeding the normal color blood is, red. As of now, Teague’s decision is about a crapshoot with Pitino and Calipari still riding the table. It doesn’t get much better than this, it’s just UK and UL dueling it out to once again to get the rights of one of college basketballs finest prospects.
Lets play a couple scenarios out:
Say Teague decides to become a Wildcat and Brandon Knight joins Wall, Rose, and Evans in Cal’s one-and-done point guards. Well then say hello to the next one in line as Teague is an extreme playmaker and will fill into the DDMO without a problem. Here is what ESPN has to say about the high school junior:
He excels in transition and in the half court with his ability to make scoring plays off the dribble. Teague has the gift to beat defenders one on one at will and force the defense to help. His ball handling is flawless. He has the ball on a string to go along with a great first step. His hesitation and stutter step moves work on a regular basis. Once in the lane Teague can finish at a high rate. He can score with acrobatic layups or dunks with a clear path. He mid range pull up is excellent and he is a streaky but much improved open three point shooter. Teague is a strong lead guard that can over power small perimeter players for and ones. He can run the offense and is excellent in a drive draw and kick situation. He is a quick hands defender as well. Overall Teague is a very explosive scoring point guard and a legit Top 5 prospect in the 2011 class.
Sounds like a John Wall clone… and who doesn’t want that. Teague would be an absolute terrific complement to an already signed stellar Michael Gilchrist. Team them up with now seniors Miller, and Liggins, coupled in with a couple other sophomores from this years class, and you got a team.
Let’s play out another scenario. Say Teague goes to UK and Knight decides to stay at UK for more than one season (which speculation indicates that their is a great chance he plays for 2 or 3 seasons). Teague would most likely come off the bench as a great backup for Knight and provide depth for a high powered team that Kentucky is destined to become in 2011-12.
Let’s play out the scenario if UL signs Teague. Then most likely UK gets either Quinn Cook or Tony Wroten who are close 2nd and 3rd’s behind Teague and when UL visits Kentucky that season, the rivalry will be at its best.
But who are we kidding, this is Point Guard U we are talking about, he’s going to pick Kentucky…
