Brandon Knight, Enes Kanter to Kentucky rumors reaching white hot status … plus we address other Kentucky rumors

by Paul Jordan

Speaking of rumors, let’s address the elephant in the room. As far as we can tell, there is absolutely no truth to the rumor coming out of a free Louisville rag that there is a national expose about to break about John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins receiving improper benefits. As far as anyone can tell, it was just made up to cause drama. And no, I am not linking to the guy because that is all he wanted … but rest easily. About six hours after printing this garbage, he kind of recanted the story.

But there are some good rumors floating around. The first is that Brandon Knight is planning on committing to Kentucky very soon. Nothing has been leaked from the Knight camp, yet most of the buzz on Knight is centering around Josh Selby’s actions. There was one rumor that said he was down to Kansas and Tennessee as a choice for schools. That rumor came from a Knoxville writer’s twitter account, so who knows the validity. A short time later, Selby’s mother said that Josh had not narrowed his list to two and she did not know where the information came from.

A lot of Kentucky fans and sources have thought Selby was Kentucky’s to lose for quite some time and the only way Kentucky would lose him is if Knight, the number one recruit in the country, did come to Kentucky. All of this Selby “news” is creating quite the noise for Knight, but nothing has been confirmed. Selby has said he will announce his school around April 17.

The other big rumor about Enes Kanter is just based on a lot of rumor and speculation. A lot of national pundits feel that he is Kentucky’s to lose, but there is no guarantee that is Kanter does sign, that he will be eligible for the entire season. Seems the NCAA may need to sort out the eligibility issues for the Turkish big man. Regardless, Kentucky fans are getting excited about Kanter.

Another big rumor has been concerning Oregon big man Terrence Jones. This weekend, the Albany Democrat Herald created quite a buzz in the Northwest by saying simply that Jones was expected to sign with Kentucky. Just a throw away line and this paper has been the only one to really say that Jones would be a Wildcat. It hit a sore spot among Washington Huskie fans apparently and a Seattle Times writer tried to debunk that rumor. Yet another source in Oregon is saying that Jones is still considering Oregon, even though Ernie Kent has been fired.

And the Kentucky rumors are not just limited to just the recruits. There is still apparently debates on whether Wall, Patterson, and Cousins will return to Kentucky and this story seems to change hourly. Even John Wall’s mom says she does not know if Wall will return to Kentucky or bolt to the NBA. And the World Wide Leader is speculating that UK assistant coach Rod Strickland will join the new DePaul staff …. even though a head coach at DePaul has not been named yet.

Whew. That’s what you get when you are Kentucky and back atop the college basketball world. Everyone is talking about you and the inevitable rumors are sure to follow.
