UK Football 2011 Recruit Kal Prince: The Wildcat Blue Blog Interview

by Kyle
One of the top high school players in the state of Kentucky, Owensboro high school senior Kal Prince took some time to update us on his preparations for his senior season and his recruitment thus far. Kal is a 6’4 198 pound Quarterback with a recorded 4.62 forty-yard dash time.

Kyle: What’s it really like being a coach’s son? Are you guys talking football at the dinner table?

Kal Prince: “Actually it’s been somewhat exciting when we are able to share victories. My quarterback coach is Jeff Reese and I really do most of my work with him. During games are when I have the most interaction with my dad. And yes, we talk about football a lot at home!”

What are the strengths of your game, and where do you want to improve?

KP: “I feel strong running the ball and I feel like I have good mechanics. My senior season I hope to improve in the area of strength and accuracy.”

What positions do you play now, and where are you projected in college?

KP: “I have played quarterback most of my life and safety at times. I do feel as though I can play different positions. I have had college coaches ask me about my interest in tight end or wide receiver. I think I have a good understanding of different positions on the field and my speed can be utilized in different places.”

Which schools have been recruiting you and who’s after you the hardest? Any early favorites?

KP: “Right now it is too early to identify key schools just yet, I should know more after April 15. I have attended Jr. Days at Western and Cincinnati and will attend the UK Jr. Day this Sunday. I have also been communicating with Coach Jeff Brohm and Coach Greg Nord at Illinois. My dad and I will be spending my spring break visiting spring practices. We haven’t decided exactly where we want to visit just yet other than Illinois. I have been busy responding to over 30 colleges with film and mail.”

What are you looking for in the school you will attend?

KP: “I’m really looking for a great fan-base, facilities and a place that will help me with a career beyond college.”

Growing up did you follow UK? Who was your favorite Wildcat and why?

KP: “Of course I followed UK! We still have season tickets with the K-Men Association and I attend as often as my football schedule will let me. I have been a rugrat at Bill Ransdell’s house since birth. One time we played kickball near Bill’s house with a bunch of UK teammates of my dad. Playing were Tony Mayes, Jim Reichwein, Bill, my Dad some more UK players and all of their kids. Looking back on that now it was a really special time. My dad also used to bring me down on the field during the alumni games. I remember getting autographs from Tim Couch and selling them for a dollar to the fans over the wall. My favorite Wildcats have probably been Keenan Burton and Dicky Lyons Jr. because they could always make the big play.”

What type of goals do you have for your senior season?

KP: “To go undefeated as a team and WIN STATE!”

What type of scheme do you hope to play in at the college level?

KP: “Spread would probably fit me best, but I’d be willing to try a drop-back system.”

What other sports do you participate in, and which do you plan on pursuing?

KP: “I also play basketball and run track. I will be pursuing football.”

What is your summer schedule looking like, and which camps/combines do you plan on attending?

KP: “We have started to work on my summer calendar and I will be attending a Nike Camp and the ELITE 11 competition in Tuscaloosa, AL in May. I also would like to attend the Bishop Dullaghan Skills camp again with Coach Dick Dullaghan of Indianapolis, IN because it has become an important part of my training every summer. I think this will be my 8th year to attend. Other than that we have started to fill in the calendar with numerous one day camps that college want me to attend for evaluation purposes. I will most likely choose about 5 of those.”

At this point in time, Kal is considered by many to be one of the top three Quarterbacks in the state of Kentucky. He should have a great year on a stacked team as the Owensboro Red Devils make a run at the 2010 5A state championship this fall. Special thanks go out to him and Coach Prince for taking time to talk to us.
