He’s baaaaaack. Unfortunately. John Calipari’s public enemy number one stalker is back on the pages of the Commercial Appeal worried as hell that the mighty Texas El Paso Miners will dump wunderkid Josh Pastner’s Memphis Tigers and end their CUSA winning streak so he is trying a proactive approach.
Blame John Calipari, of course.
I have written on the obsessed Wolken before and it is kind of sad that he is still so preoccupied with John Calipari 9 months after Cal left Memphis. Yet, he continues to turn out his smug tripe and now blames Calipari’s recruiting in 2007 and 2008 for possibly being the downfall should the Miners be victorious:
Calipari spent a lot of time in 2007 and 2008 flying all over the country, trying to capitalize on the recruiting momentum from Memphis’ rise to No. 1 in the rankings. Some days, he would come to practice already worn out after flying back and forth to some East Coast city to see a player.
It was part of a recruiting philosophy that served Memphis well for much of Calipari’s tenure. Most of the top players he coached here were from places like Chicago (Derrick Rose), Detroit (Chris Douglas-Roberts), Philadelphia (Tyreke Evans), Indianapolis (Rodney Carney) and New Jersey (Dajuan Wagner).
Now apparently the UTEP Miners have a lot of players from Memphis that can beat the Tigers tonight and Wolken whines that Calipari should have been signing these CUSA players from Memphis instead of Rose and company?? It really makes no sense. A quick check of the Commercial Appeal archives shows Wolken expressing no displeasure when Rose was leading Memphis to the Finals. No, not a peep about Calipari’s recruiting then but now they come as the loses are starting to mount.
To be honest, I would expect to see such lunatic ravings written in feces on the wall of a padded room. But instead, Wolken brings this drivel into the open. Now that Calipari has UK on the verge of a number one ranking, Wolken’s twitter texts come off as a spoiled two year old banging his head on the floor to get attention:
Caller to the show made great point. If Cal wants to take a personal conf streak to SEC don’t u have to include 08 loss to Tenn?
Caltucky is going to be No. 1 next week. Should make for interesting convo on The Dan Wolken Show tomorrow.
Can’t vacate AP polls RT @GaryParrishCBS: Is Cal about to become the 1st coach to lead 3 different schools to a No. 1 AP ranking?
Yea. Obsessed much? Got to love the reference to Calipari’s conference winning streak on twitter because Wolken ran a poll on his page asking if the Tigers will win to set a record for consecutive conference victories. What streak is that, douche? Calipari’s streak or Josh Pastner’s three game winning streak? Most people see the hypocrisy in this but apparently not Wolken.
And following on the heels of Wolkens comments come the inevitable flood of classless Memphis fans who flood the Memphis message boards to attack Calipari for his “Hoops for Haiti” telethon. Really? I don’t freaking get it.
