I have to admit, the day got off to a pretty good start when I saw the twitter text from UK prospect Quincy Miller. Usually these kids say stuff like “Headed to UK blah, blah, blah” but Quincy at least showed a rooting interest with his tweet:
Just got to Kentucky! Gametime soon..let’s get money cats
And get money the Cats did, edging the Tar Heels 68-66. It was tense at times but should be noted that there was only one lead change in the game and while UNC got close, UK always found it o go on a brief streak o push the lead back a bit. I can’t tell who how impressed I was with the gutty nature the Cats showed in the second half with Wall out and Bledsoe on a gimpy ankle. This win showed a lot of heart by UK and UK has something now that has now been present lately: a feeling that when the game is on the line, you are still going to pull out the win.
It’s a good feeling to have.
UK victory aside, I made myself a few “John Wall’s” and sat down for the Alabama/Florida game. It is no secret that I am not a Gator fan at all and it was good to live vicariously through the Crimson Tide and watch them dismantle the Gators 32-13. And yes, I will take a small moral victory in knowing that the Tide beat the almighty Gators worse than they did us (19-18 points). Small moral victory indeed, but it also was an added bonus to watch Tim Tebow cry for the last 10:00 of the game and prove human with a couple of errors at the end. Keep in mind, it was a huge thing for me to root for Nick Saban. I have hated him since he ran my Dolphins into the ground and decided that Daunte Culpepper was a better QB than Drew Brees.
Believe it or not, the day got even better.
Around this time came word that the USC Trojans had lost to the Arizona Wildcats and finished 6th in the Pac-10. Simply put, I am not a fan of the BCS and USC is one of the overrated teams that usually benefits from the BCS rankings, so it was really nice to see them crash and burn this season. On a personal matter, I have hated Pete Carroll’s guts ever since he was an assistant coach with the Jets and made a “choke signal” to Dolphin kicker Pete Stoyonavich on a ESPN Sunday Night game a long, long time ago. Yea, I know, I really don’t let things go.
But pray tell could this day get any better?
Why yes it could. In a stunning upset, the Charlotte 49ers cruised to a 87-65 romp over the 18th ranked (and obscenely over rated) Dirty Cards of Rick Pitino at Rupp Arena West, I mean Freedom Hall. Any time the Dirty Cards lose, it is a good day. The fact that they were blown out on the same day Calipari notched his first big win, made it, well pretty damn sweet.
You would think that is more than enough goodness for one person to take, but just a few minutes ago, Quincy Miller sent out yet another Twitter text and it seems his day at Rupp went very well:
What about those Cats? Haha hanging with J.wall right now! He got off..thanx to Carolina! Kentucky! 😉
So all in all it’s been a good day. Good for the Cats and the present. And good hopefully for the future with Miller.
