MARK KREBS

SENIOR

GUARD

6’5 208

NEWPORT, KY

NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC

BEFORE UK:

Mark was one of the top players in Northern Kentucky and finished his HS career at Newport Central Catholic. After HS, Mark found his way to Thomas Moore College and contributed as a freshman starting 9 games for the Saints in 2005-2006. He was third on the team in scoring with 9.3 points a game and added 2.4 boards a game.

AS A WILDCAT:

Lived the prototypical life as a walkon in 2007-2008, appearing in just four games, averaging less than a minute a game and scoring just .8 points a game. Last season, Krebs saw considerably more action, appearing in 13 games, but still less than two minutes a game and Krebs averaged just .2 points a game. Most pundits thought that Kreb’s career was over at UK when Calipari came in and started his roster overhaul. Not only did Krebs survive the cuts, he received the ultimate reward for a walk on player: a full basketball scholarship for his senior season.

CAREER HIGHS:

Points: 3 – 11/24/2008 – vs Longwood

Rebounds: 2 – 12/22/2008 – vs Tennessee State

Assists: 1 – 12/29/2008 – vs Central Michigan

WHAT TO EXPECT THIS SEASON:

It’s hard to see Krebs getting regular minutes this year, but Calipari would have not given him a scholarship if he did not feel he could contribute. Krebs is a big guard with a knock down jumper.
Krebs saw limited time in the Blue/White game and the 2 exhibition games, but he did manage to get in and nail a 3 pointer in each appearance. Krebs has also drawn the praise of team mates like DeMarcus Cousins who has suggested that Krebs could surprise some people with his play. It’s hard to forecast minutes and points for Krebs, but the best possible scenario this year is that he can fill a Cameron Mills type role on this team.

Krebs on his future when Calipari arrived: “When (Calipari) got here I was nervous because you have to prove yourself to another person. I was used to it but I had to take it day-by-day and go as hard as I could and not have any regrets. If he had said go home, I would have been devastated but I would have been OK”.

CALIPARI ON KREBS:

“Mark is a great asset to this year’s team. He has shown a passion for the game from day one that has stood out. He’s a valuable teammate and helps provide senior leadership to an inexperienced team.”
