Duke fansite blogs on the "difference between John Wall and Ryan Kelly", challenges anyone to find dirt on Kelly

Proving that denial is not just a big river in Africa, the Duke Basketball Report weighs in with an attack piece on UK and attempts to distance their player that played on Brian Clifton’s AAU team, Ryan Kelly, from Kentucky’s player on the same team, John Wall.

The story loses all attempt at credibility when they try to reference in Calipari and suggest this was of his doing when it has been very clearly established that this is not a Calipari issue. The Dookie also for whatever reason brings up Derrick Rose and in some twisted Duke logic, tie that to John Wall as well. You have to wonder about an article that links to Geoff Calkins for support in an argument.

Even with the plausible argument that Duke would be facing the same issue had Wall enrolled with them instead of Kentucky, the Dookie goes off the deep end and seems to INVITE people to investigate the Ryan Kelly/Clifton relationship and see if anyone can find any wrong doing.

Really? You really want to invite people to investistigate Duke’s “squeaky clean rep”??

Now you can look, but we’re pretty sure you won’t find any stories from last spring which suggest that Clifton tried to steer Kelly to Duke or that he was angling to be his agent or anything like that.

It is fair, however, to point out that Duke also recruited Wall and would likely be dealing with the same issues now had he chosen Duke.

Or maybe not exactly. The NCAA just finished recently with Memphis and the stuff that happened there. There was some controversy over the ruling, specifically whether or not the NCAA should have caught the questions about the SAT earlier. Whatever you think about that, the fact is that Derrick Rose’s test score shot up in a statistically improbable manner, and there were suggestions of fraud.

I am not really sure if the person that wrote this has any affiliation with the Blue Devils but he certainly does not have a grasp on the Clifton/Wall situation. First off, this is not a Calipari thing in the least. The visits occurred when Wall visited UK in 2007.

Secondly, we are not talking big time benefits that Clifton may have paid to Wall. We are talking about an occasional dinner after practice or a game or things that hundreds of high school coaches routinely do for their players occasionally out of their own pockets. Essentially Clifton was in the role of coach when he made the trips with Wall and he could have picked up the bill for a few “harmless expenses”.

Now who is to say that Clifton has not done the same for Kelly? I am sure the writer of the article has no prior knowledge of what may have happened between Clifton and Kelly and after reading the negative to UK for no reason article, I just have one question for the author:

With your school’s reputation and the Corey Maggette affair still “unresolved”, is now really a good time to be challenging other school’s fans to find dirt on your program? Yea, better rethink that approach.
