Not so fast Dookies … Kyrie Irving to make Midnight Madness Trip … for now
By Staff
I’m sure there is a lot of posturing and movement behind the scenes going on that we don’t know about …. but as far as actual basketball recruiting news, it has pretty much hit a standstill. But whatever news there is nowadays is coming directly from the players mouths. Latest news on Kyrie Irving comes from his twitter account and the news that he WILL be visiting UK’s Midnight Madness on October 16.
It does look like the much awaited “Kyrie to Duke” commitment is not going to happen for a while, and the rumors that Kentucky is now a co-leader seem pretty strong at this point.
Sunday marked the three week anniversary of the infamous Matt Jones twitters that there was a big national story about UK basketball poised to break. And for now, no news is still good news. In a live blog tonight on Kentucky Sports Radio, Jones stood by his tweets and said that a story should still be coming:
I have no idea why it has been delayed….but I am told it is still coming and that if it doesnt, the person will let me know. That is all I can go on
At this point, you would have to think that if there is a national job concerning Calipari/UK, it is nothing more than a hack job intended on creating embarrassment for him. I say no way that it is actual news… but probably just lots more speculation and half-truths. I would say that the closer we get to Midnight Madness, the more likely this thing may come out, but I have stopped worrying about it and am breathing easier now.
Is Kentucky cooling on Doron Lamb? Or has Doron Lamb cooled on Kentucky? There was an interesting blurb on Adam Zagoria’s blog yesterday on Lamb and the fact that he has scheduled visits to Oklahoma this weekend and then will be at Kansas on October 16 for their “Midnight Madness”. Lamb’s high school coach Steve Smith said that Lamb will take a third visit on October 23, but that school had not been named yet:
“From what I’ve heard him say, I think his top three would be Kansas, Oklahoma and the next one I couldn’t tell you. It was Kentucky. But they haven’t been in here to see him yet”
Zagoria attributed that quote to Smith last week, If we recall, Calipari and company made a trip to Oak Hill to see Lamb last week before Stacey Poole announced his decision. There was speculation that Lamb and Poole were in a race to see who commits first, and since Smith said he thought Lamb would commit soon, one wonders if there is still a spot being held for Lamb. If another team fills that 10/23 visit slot, UK may be out of the running for Lamb.
Zagoria also said that by the way the recent recruiting trends were going that “You have to figure Kentucky coach John Calipari will wind up with at least one of these big-time guards: Irving, Knight, Selby, Lamb and Cory Joseph.”
