After in home visits, Brandon Knight, Stacey Poole, and Adreian Payne are headed to Lexington. Is Calipari "closing in for the kill?"

Can you smell the excitement? The next week is going to be a huge week for UK basketball recruiting and it could culminate in the signing of our first recruit for 2010 … and then some. This weekend saw Calipari pay home visits to three potential commitments and now there are tons of rumors and speculation in the air, so let’s take a look at the targets.

BRANDON KNIGHT

The in home visit with Knight was supposed to take place on the 14th but for some reason was moved up to today. As Calipari and staff were already in Florida, they were more than happy to oblige. But what was the reason for the change in date? The always informative Dustin Rumbaugh speculates (note the use of the word speculates) how Knight’s in home visit with Bill Self went. Keep in mind that Brandon Knight will be attending UK this weekend and taking in the UK/UL game. The timing is there for a big announcement, but once again just speculation. Knight and his family have been kind of cryptic on their decision making process, but things definitely look good for UK at this point.

On a side rant about Kansas…. who is the bunglehead that is in charge of announcing the recruits visits to Kansas? Last week, we learned that despite rumors, Doron Lamb was not attending Kansas’s “Late Night in the Phog”. Lambs family seemed confused about the rumor and now, the same thing seems to have happened with Brandon Knight. Rumbaugh confirms that as of now, there is no “Late Night” visit for Knight that has been verified. I wonder if this information is being leaked by zealous bloggers or just a general *SNAFU* with the Jayhawks athletic department jumping the gun on this.

STACEY POOLE

Calipari already had a visit planned with Poole for today and like Knight, Poole is going to attend UK next weekend and take in the UK/UL football game. Poole has seemed to be firmly a UK lean for a while and there is a lot of speculation that if UK presses for a commitment this coming up weekend, they very well may get it. Just got a twitter text from Matt Jones that said that Poole had eliminated Indiana from his list, so this one SEEMS to be signed, sealed, and delivered. The only question is if UK has enough interest in Poole to make him the first commitment or are they still waiting to see what happens with other recruits. One thing for sure is that Knight seeing an excited Poole, a fellow Floridian, commit to UK can only help matters.

ADREIAN PAYNE

Payne had his in home visit with Calipari yesterday and the visit did what it was supposed to do: get Payne on campus for a visit. Paynes HS coach sent out a test last night to Rumbaugh that the visit with UK went very well and that UK was “impressive”. As a result, Payne will be on campus for the weekend of the 25-27th and will take in the UK/UF football game.

This week is a calmer week for Calipari and UK as they just have a September 15th in home visit with Josh Selby, and then it is back to Lexington to prepare for the Knight and Poole visits.
