Calipari's comments as individual workouts continue

What a quiet Labor Day Night. Just sitting here watching my Hurricanes (in Florida, you have to have to adopt one of the Big 3 as your own) do battle with the hated FSU Seminoles and I am amazed that Bobby Bowden is up so late his bed time. I am also browsing the web for some UK basketball news and there is nothing …. I guess the only really news is that Josh Selby will receive an in home visit on 9.15 and that is about it, so I stumbled across CoachCal.com and checked out his notes on the team’s individual practices.

Apparently Darnell Dodson’s shooting has really impressed Calipari thus far. Darnell had a “breakout day”. I think that Dodson will be pressed to pick up most of the scoring slack vacated by Meeks. I am no expecting 23 a game from him, but it seems capable that Darnell can throw in 14 a night or so.

In a continuing theme, Josh Harrellson was singled out again and Cal stated that he was really impressed by him. This is a big surprise as Josh was kind of an unknown quantity last year and he was expected by a lot of people to not even make the roster, but it appears that he is really adapting to the DDMO and could see a bit of playing time this year.

There were a few general quotes from Calipari about the general gelling of the team and how hard it is to gauge expectations this yearly in the process:

All these kids are breaking barriers each time out. We’re still pushing them to go beyond their limits at this point. At the end of these sessions, I want their bodies to burn and hurt in ways that it’s like sweet pain for them – so they want to get that feeling again for themselves; that’s the challenge right now.

We are still at the point where we are building respect and affection for each other. That’s growing, but it doesn’t happen overnight. There will be fits and starts with that, but I see everyone supporting each other and that’s a great sign. We all need to want each other to improve every day.

I can’t really give a true assessment of where we are or how the team’s progress compares to former squads I’ve had. That kind of evaluation can’t start until we are able to get the whole team on the floor at once, which we can begin to do for two hours a week starting September 15.

And that Cat fans is about all that is going on right now — sorry this was so unexciting. If you are looking for something ridiculous to read, you can always read this bit of Wildcat envy from a Gator blogger or give me your opinion on live blogs for the UL game on 9/19 in the poll at right. At this point, I am leaning towards doing one, even if it is just a few people… nothing is better than chatting with some fellow Cat fans while rolling the hated Cardinals.
