"It's all about John Wall. If he's the guy then Kentucky is for real. They've got everything else."

Seriously, you have got to love the above quote from an “anonymous” SEC coach. All is shows is that the rest of the SEC coaches know what the rest of the BBN has known for a while: that this UK team is loaded and is going to be scary good. And the catalyst to this is Wall, the undeniable number one player in this recruiting class and already projected to be the top pick in next season’s NBA draft.
As we speak, Wall is living the life of every other college freshman across the country: getting adjusted to his new class schedule and working to find the balance between student live and fitting in a part time job and being the savior for the number one college basketball program. As for the academic part, Wall has been taken summer classes and proudly reports that he already has a 4.0 average for his academic career. As for the savior thing, well, college basketball practice is just getting underway and his legacy starts on November 16.
The one thing that strikes you about Wall is that he seems to have a very engaging personality. He has a huge smile in about every picture you see of him and he does look good in Kentucky Blue. He has gotten around to do a few interviews with people such as Chris Fisher of Kentucky Ink and Larry Vaught. I have to say that I was impressed on his demeanor and the way that he handles himself and wanted to share with you some of the highlights of those conversations.
ON COACH CAL AND HIS RECRUITMENT:
“Back when he was recruiting me and I talked to him for the first time, I thought that was a coach I could play for. When he came to my house for the first time to visit with my mom and coaches, my mom said she trusted him. I knew this was a coach then I could play for.
“The main thing for me was my mom trusting the coach and my relationship with the coach. I knew the style of play fit me. That’s when I knew I was going with coach Cal. My mom really liked him
“My relationship with Coach Cal was first and foremost, but what he did with Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans in the past as point guards, that played a big role,”
ON ERIC BLEDSOE:
“I knew the first day we saw each other we were probably thinking certain things. We thought we were going to compete and not get along until you really know somebody. We got on the court and I saw how competitive he was and he saw how competitive I was and we got on the same page. It seemed like from there we were cool. We’re like brothers. If we weren’t on the same page, I think it would have been tough for the team.”
“We battle toe-to-toe to make us better. Everybody said, ‘you can’t have two of the top point guards at the same school’ and I think we’ve done fine ever since the first day we came here. He helps me out and I help him out.”
“We could play together in this offense. It just depends on working hard and who coach Cal starts. Hopefully we can both do well and start.”
ON WINNING A TITLE AT KENTUCKY:
“I feel the pressure but I’m used to taking the pressure on. I feel like the pressure is on the whole team to bring Kentucky back. We’re trying to bring Kentucky back to where it was.”
“Every time I sit in that locker room or step on the court, I think this team has the chance to be great and make a run at a national championship. To have another point guard like Eric that can push the ball and then we know we have wing players to make shots and Pat and DeMarcus can score. Most teams you don’t have a key player at each spot. Everyone on our team can be a star player. We’re all used to scoring 20-25 points a game. We have to make sacrifices. That’s what we’re going to have to do to become a team.”
