Parrish's and Calkin's "conspiracy theories" regarding Calipari grow tired
By Staff
I know I kind of swore off this stuff yesterday but yet again I get drawn into the muck. About a month ago, I warned UK fans to consider the sources when it comes to the Calipari bashing. And now, that “it has hit the fan”, the national medias are booking the good old “slander siblings” to raise their brand of muckracking to a whole new level.
Geoff Calkins gets his kicks writing for the Commercial Appeal and making national TV appearances looking like an older, worn out version of Elton John. Ranting and raving about the big Calipari conspiracies. Gary Parrish, his former Commercial Appeal cohort, now writes for CBSSports and adds an air of credibility to their lunatic ravings.
Both of the siblings are in rare form after the latest fiasco. Both of them choosing to attack Calipari, who was never named in the violations, instead of turning their eyes toward their hometown program who now has had TWO final fours vacated.
Calkins latest muck racking expose travels dangerously close to slander material in saying that Calipari knew about the Rose SAT and may as well set it up himself . Of course he has no real proof. He just throws around the WorldWide Wes connection around and rants hysterically. Over at CBSSports.com, Parrish rants about Calipari’s twitter texts and promises that Calipari will never be inducted in the college basketball Hall of Fame because of Memphis’s having this last season vacated. In lieu of actual journalism, Parrish recounts conversations with his buddies .
Wow. What a carefully orchestrated attack on Calipari. Well, do keep in mind that every weekday, between 11AM – 1PM, the two trade notes on the “Geoff and Gary Show” on Memphis’s not to be found in the ratings KQPN 730AM. Apparently these two have the airwaves all to themselves as they can get their stories straight and dole out what muck to rake.
But there is a warning from Parrish for UK fans who want to enjoy their ride to the Final Four this year. He and Calkins , um the media will be watching Calipari with their pens handy if the Cats make a Final Four run: I’ll go ahead and predict no less than 150 anti-Calipari columns if Kentucky marches to next year’s Final Four, which is very much possible given a roster featuring John Wall, Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins.
Wow. Bitter much. As much as these guys want to mudsling, it still just comes off as good old fashioned bitterness that Calipari left Memphis. Neither of them have really addressed the question of why, if Calipari was such a scumbag, did the University of Memphis throw more money at Cal than UK did in an attempt to get him to stay? Keep in mind, Memphis knew fully about these allegations so until that question can be satisfactorily answered, Parrish’s and Calkin’s “revelations” and veiled threats just come across as empty blather.
They can practice their self indignation all they want, but in the end, it’s all empty. Although they would profess to have been “anti Cal, all the time” and all knowing, their earlier writings are nothing short of adulation. And this change of tone kind of makes the marketing spiel on their website ring kind of hollow: And that’s the level of credibility they can bring to your business.
