Looking at 8 football recruits that can be wearing the Blue and White in 2010
By Staff
To keep being on the receiving end of future Gatorade showers, it has been evident that UK Coach Rich Brooks has to step it up in the recruiting area, and get bigger, stronger, and faster to compete in the SEC. Much has been made of Brook’s new approach to recruiting this year, and while I still think that this is now the right approach to compete in the SEC, it has not been a great week for the football Cats.
OLB Nigel Terrell from Alabama has cut his list down to a final two of FSU and Alabama and the Talbot brothers from Ohio signed with Michigan. Gunslinger QB Billy Cosh has UK in his final three, but chose Kansas State. Despite the setbacks, **** WR Dyjuan Lewis has a final two of Kentucky and Michigan State , and it appears that more good news may be on the way for Kentucky before the season starts on September 5.
Last week, we went over a few of the big names on UK’s wish list. Now is a good time to look over some of the “hidden gems” that Brooks likes to recruit and some other possible players that may be wearing Kentucky blue soon.
Tim McAdoo – DT – Mufreesboro, TN
McAdoo is a HUGE (6’2, 330) DT prospect that plays on both the OL and the DL in HS. He is a solid *** recruit and ESPN has him ranked as the 66th best DT prospect and a 76 ranking overall. He is described as a “bulldozing guard” but will likely settle as a DT. What’s better is that KENTUCKY INK is saying that McAdoo is ready to “pull the trigger” and commit to UK very soon. McAdoo told on KI on Thursday night that his HS coach was “going to get in touch with them (UK) and I’m going to verbally commit”
JAMIUS GUNSBY – QB- LAGRANGE, GA
Everyone knows how UK has been a “home away from home” from LaGrange players over the last several years and this fact has not been lost on *** recruit Gunsby. A lot of people are comparing the Georgia gunslinger to Florida QB Tim TeBow and the Gator’s seem to think he can be a SEC QB, seeing that they have offered him. UK is currently projecting him as a QB also, but the 6’3, 195, recruit with 4.5 speed can also fit in at WR, TE, or S. Gunsby has not set a list of favorites yet, but says he had fun at both the Florida and Kentucky camps and “those two really stood out as far as the camps were concerned”.
MILES SIMPSON – RB – INDEPENDENCE, KY
Simpson is rated the 4th best recruit from the state of Kentucky and he obviously would be a huge coup in keeping the top Kentucky players in state. Miles had a huge year last year as he rushed for 2,309 yards and 37 TD’s in leading Simon Kenton to the 6A title game. The 6’2, 195 RB with the 4.55 speed also had 233 yards receiving and added 3 TD’ receptions. On defense, he intercepted three passes and had 44 tackles. Simpson is open on his choices right now, but says UK is a strong contender and likes “their coaching staff a lot”.
MAUDRECUS HUMPHERY – WR – HOOVER, AL
Maudrecus Humphery is fast. Like recently clocked at 4.34 fast. And that fact has made the 6’2, 185 WR a hot commodity in recruiting circles. Humphery is the son of former Alabama and NFL standout Bobby Humphery and currently has 7 schools offering him. He is also getting interest on the defensive end of the ball but 4.34 speed is nothing to be taken lightly and it is apparent that UK sees him as a playmaker at the WR position. Humphery is just getting started in the decision making process.
DYLAN BOSTIC – OL – NEPTUNE BEACH, FL
It was impossible to find a picture of this 6’6, 270, Jacksonville area OL, but trust me, college coaches know what this kid looks like. He has recently dropped 20 pounds, and doing so, dropped his 40 time below 4.8. Ron Zook from Illinois is the latest “big name” coach to offer and Bostic holds 11 scholarship offers. It helps that a personal trainer that lives across the street from Bostic has made him his “summer project” and Bostic hopes to be able to reach 405 on the bench press by the end of the summer. I know this was an offer that Brooks was hoping to keep a lid on, but for now the secret is out of the bag.
AUSTIN COLLINSWORTH – S – FT THOMAS HIGHLANDS, KY
Collinsworth, the son of former Bengal WR Chris, is the 6th top prospect in the state of Kentucky for 2010. Collinsworth is exactly the type of “sleeper” prospect, Brooks is able to make a star at the next level. While he does not have incredible blazing speed (4.7), Austin is a very intelligent player that makes things happen on the field. He is always a threat as a returner, returning three KO’s and 2 Punts for TD’s last season and he also managed to snag 4 INT’s and had an 18.2 yards reception average and caught 5 of those passes for TD’s. A borderline ***, Austin has six offers in the bag, incliding UK and the Ville.
DERRICK BRYANT – DE – COLUMBUS, OH
From all indications, Bryant is a prime example of UK’s new approach in recruiting as UK has not one, but two coaches in contact with him to steal the pass rushing threat out of Big 10 country. It appears that the approach is working as rivals.com shows a top four of Kentucky, Oregon, UCLA, and North Carolina. Bryant used his 4.55 speed to record 12 sacks last year and as of a month ago, lists UK as one of his favorites: “They’re up there. The coaches, the playing time. They’re building something special there. I want to be a part of something like that.”
DALE TRIMBLE – CB – GADSDEN, AL
Trimble is a shut down corner and you would have to think that the 20th ranked CB could make a play for filling Trevard Lindley’s shows in the 2010 season. But the trick is getting him out of Alabama, where Auburn and Alabama are showing interest, but it appears that Clemson is an early leader. UK did make the final 5 list of Trimble and he has some good things to say about UK: “Man, I really like Kentucky. I’m considering Kentucky a lot. I talked to one of the coaches, he came to my school recently. They think I can come in and play as a true freshman. They’re in my top five.”
