UK gamers looking to propel Cats to BCS "tournament"

facebooktwitterreddit

Every since, say Monday night at midnight, some hard core UK football fans have been engaged in an unique competition to win a mythical national championship. EA Sport’s “NCAA Football 10”, the ultra popular video game, hit stores this week and with it, came a unique challenge for college football fans. It is called “Season Showdown” and it does what the BCS can never do: provide a 32 team tournament for the “fans” national championship.

While it sounds geeky to the non gamer, it really is a great deal of fun and adds an extra element to the great NCAA Football franchise. Each player picks a team to get points for all season. Then, simply play the game. You get points for your strategy, skill, and even sportsmanship. Each week during the season is a version of the real life college football matchup as fans of the teams battle their opponent and which ever team has the most points win. The games continue through the regular season and then they conference championships come into play. The real life results do not matter as the EA sports motto goes “It’s in the game”. So while UK fans will probably cede the SEC East to the Gator’s, the video version of UK can find themselves in the SEC championship if they band together and support the Cats. After the conference championships, there is a tournament of the top 32 teams to decide EA Sport’s “Fan Championship”.

It is the preseason right now, but Ohio State has been holding the number 1 ranking over the Gators. Cat fans are not doing to shabbily however as they are ranked at #33, right behind the South Carolina Gamecocks. Keep in mind, only the top 32 teams make the tournament at the end of the season so UK will have to overtake the Gamecocks to hit the elite 32. On the other hand, Louisville Cardinal fans are ranked at #52 and the WKU Hilltoppers are at #112 of the 120 teams. UK’s first opponent, Miami, is currently #111 so the Cat’s should start out 1-0.

I am on XBOX360, so I have no idea how this contest is playing out over on the Playstation 3 venues. But come on Wildcat fans, fire up your game controllers and let’s propel the Cat’s into the championship tournament.

Even more video game geekiness as I have created a UK roster complete with names that you can download and play with rather than have the players designated by numbers. It took a bit of work to do as I had limited spots and had to “cut players” to fit Chris Matthews, DeQuin Evans and Mark Crawford onto the roster as well as promising freshmen such as the Walker brothers.

Anyway, the roster is available for you to download for free on the XBOX 360 platform. Simply click on the TEAMBUILDER link and after you sign into XBOX LIVE, click search schools. Enter my gamertag “orlandokat32746″ into the search for author link and hit search. You will see two matches, pick the UK roster and download it. Then when you start your dynasty, you will be able to call it up. What I did was replace the real Cat’s with my Cats.

I had to say I was in a quandary whether to redshirt Mossakowski for my season but made the decision to keep him active. I would post more but I have to put a whipping on Miami.

Happy gaming.
