They're baaaack : Assault of the fake UK profile pages
By Staff
The saying goes that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that is true, how flattering is outright identity theft? I guess that the biggest sign that Kentucky is truly back on the national scene is the recent spate of fake profiles that have proliferated across the Internet recently.
The most famous one one is the fake Calipari Facebook profile which unleashed a torrent of racial comments and harassing comments on the pages of stunned Kentucky fans who saw their savior turn nasty before their eyes. The pic above is an encounter from the fake Calipari and young Wildcat fan Aaron Thompson. There is something to be said about Wildcat fan’s allegiance to even the fake Cal. When your basketball coach tells you that “if a girl asks, always ‘Put it in the butt’ (PIITB), you better reply with a dutiful “yes sir”.
Turns out the fake Calipari was actually a Jayhawk fan and he would still be posting if not for the intervention of Erin Calipari (who rocks). She wrote the guy a letter and asked that he pull the profile down and he agreed only if Erin acknowledge his existence which she did. So as with the attacks earlier on Pat Forde, Erin once again saves the day.
And I can personally take a little bit of credit for censoring the “genius” at www.johnvcalipari.com. Shortly after Cal left Memphis, this site popped up and had a lot of derogatory and slanderous personal statements about Calipari. I had a lawyer friend fire off a couple of emails and “educated” the website operator of the consequences of slandering someone on the Internet and about a day later, all content was removed and the lame picture took it’s place. All it proves is that I was right about Memphis fans being obsessed over Calipari and seriously, “Kensucky” is the worst insult you can come up with? That is so third grade.
And now we come to “Twittergate”. There had been a JohnWall11 kicking around for a few months on twitter and that changed to UKJohnWall11 and seemed to fool a lot of UK fans. The posts were basically innocent enough but kind of creepy that someone would go to the trouble of creating a fake Wall account and pretending to be him. Then the same person apparently created a fake twitter account for DeMarcus Cousins and the two fake twitter accounts had conversations with each other. Pretty bizarre stuff. The fake DeMarcus was chiding the fake John Wall for not following the real Calipari’s twitter account.
Now there are lots of real UK players (former and past) that have real twitter accounts and the best way to judge what is real or not is to take a look at Cal’s page and see if he is following them or not. Yes, once again, its WWCD, even when it comes to discerning fake twitter accounts.
