We say goodbye to Kevin Galloway and Matt Pilgrim???

facebooktwitterreddit

Tis all rumors and speculations but there is a groundswell of information leaking out that Kevin Galloway and Matt Pilgrim will no longer be Wildcats. I am giving my credit as this source to Matt Jones at www.kentuckysportsradio.com .

I just received a twitter text that read ” Matt May at TCP now saying that Pilgrim and Galloway will not return to UK next year. If true, the roster is set for next season”. After John Wall arrived, UK was 3 scholarships over the limit, 4 if Jodie Meeks returned. About a month ago, Donald Williams and AJ Stewart were released from the team. Now these two would make up the four scholarships.

I am sure, this will increase speculation that Meeks is headed back, but there has been no official word from the Meeks camp and he is still scheduled to work out in Chicago. The common knowledge suggests he will talk it over with his family over the weekend, and then make an announcement on Monday, which is the deadline to return.

Galloway arrived as a transfer from Southern Idaho via the JUCO route. He was expected to push Michael Porter at PG, but started just 5 games and averaged just 10 minutes with 1.9 points and 1.7 assists a game. The highlight of Galloway’s brief UK career was undoubtedly the Florida game at Rupp where he took charge with 9 assists and 6 points in just 25 minutes. The rest of Galloway’s season never matched that promise, but his playing time was wildly inconsistent.

Pilgrim can enjoy the title as best player to never play a game at UK. He arrived last year as a junior transfer from Hampton and had to sit out the season. His practice battles with Patrick Patterson became legendary and he had his own pocket of supporters who swore he was a “beast” and a “sure fire NBA first rounder”. Rumors of chemistry problems and academics seem to have doomed Pilgrim as a Wildcat.

As always, it is sad to see Wildcats go, and we fondly wish Kevin and Matt the best.

No word on what may happen if Meeks does not return as (my math is hazy) UK will then be one player under the limit.
