After losing several players to season-ending injuries over the past few seasons, Kentucky Football now loses safety Davonte Robinson for 2019

To answer the question in the title of the article, YES, losing junior safety Davonte Robinson is a crucial loss for the Kentucky Football program moving forward. Robinson, no. 9 on the field, reportedly must undergo surgery to repair a quadriceps injury, according to WKYT. This procedure will sideline the starting defensive back for the entire 2019 campaign.

When will Kentucky Football catch a break with player health? Every year, the Cats seemingly lose at least a starter or two to season-concluding injuries. In the three seasons preceding this, Kentucky lost safety Darius West for all of 2016, saw starting seniors Cole Mosier (left tackle) and Dorian Baker (wide receiver) endure season-ending injuries during 2017 preseason scrimmages and were left without projected All-SEC left tackle Landon Young and rising sophomore sensation Josh Paschal in 2018. (Paschal conquered a battle with melanoma and even returned to the field for a couple of games at the end of the year). Point being: bad luck continues to strike the Kentucky Football program when it comes to critical injuries.

There’s really no other way to put it: the whole situation is just horrible. Robinson, who doesn’t have a redshirt to fall back on, will miss an entire year of eligibility due to the injury. Plus, with the mass exodus of secondary talent after last year, Robinson was the most experienced and flexible defensive back set to suit up for the Kentucky Wildcats this Fall. Replacing him will be an extremely difficult task. (Check back with us tomorrow because I’ll be writing a piece breaking down who might replace Robinson’s production).

Everyone keep Davonte Robinson in your thoughts over the next few months and let’s all hope for a speedy and pain-free recovery for the fellow Wildcat. His contributions will certainly be missed on the football field but I’m also hoping this terrible break doesn’t derail Robinson the person either.
