Rumors are starting to spread about possible trades taking place in the NBA Draft. A Kentucky Basketball star may be affected.

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly looking to trade up to get the top pick in the NBA Draft. Currently the top slot is reserved for the Boston Celtics. The Celtics are fresh off of a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. Some might say that they don’t really need the top pick. But, one Kentucky Basketball star could be affected if the move takes place.

De’Aaron Fox is a lottery pick in every Mock Draft out there. There isn’t any doubt in his play making abilities. Although, there is doubt in team needs when it comes to the Boston Celtics picking third. If the trade does happen, the Celtics might be more prone to take a forward as opposed to a guard. The top pick in the draft will be Markelle Fultz. The team didn’t matter at the time. The 76ers were inclined to take a point guard to pair with their emerging stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Philadelphia could’ve been a real option at the third pick for De’Aaron Fox. The 76ers need a point guard in the worst way. But, if Philadelphia is inclined to move up to draft Fultz, that may leave Fox in the dust.

Team Needs

The Celtics do not necessarily need a point guard. They have one of the best guards in the league in Isaiah Thomas. Additionally, they are in deep need of front court depth. With a draft full of athletes, they could reach for one of the big names as early as number three. Jonathan Isaac or Lauri Markkanen are viable options for the Celtics if this trade happens. The Celtics don’t have the pressure of taking the best player available. They have leeway to do as they please.

The 76ers however, do not. They must take a point guard. Period. This may leave Fox left for another team. Looking down the line, The Suns do not need a point guard. But, that doesn’t mean they won’t take one. The Sacramento Kings are a realistic option to choose a point guard like Fox as well. If the trade takes place, look for this to happen before all else.

After the Kings we have Orlando and Minnesota. Fox to Orlando makes the most sense. But, he doesn’t look to fall that far.

Of course, that is if the Lakers don’t take De’Aaron Fox at number two.
