Kentucky Basketball Signee, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander now Bumped to Five Star Status
Kentucky Basketball Signee, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has made one of the biggest jumps in the 247Sports final player rankings.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a 6-foot-6 combo guard that hails from the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. Alexander committed to John Calipari and the Kentucky Basketball program on November14.
At the time, Alexander was rated just a four star recruit in the 247Sports composite. The nationally recognized recruiting service listed him in the top 50 of their national player rankings at the time. Ranked as the No. 42 player in the country, Alexander has now made the jump all the way to No. 19 in the final player rankings.
How did he do it?
Alexander was not a Mcdonald’s All-American. He just may become one of the best Kentucky Basketball players in the John Calipari era to not be named to that particular all-star team. Even though he didn’t get the big to be a part of one of the top all-American organizations, Alexander did take part in the Nike Hoops Summit as part of the World Select team representing Canada. He scored 11 points in the game while starting for the world team.
Also, Alexander participated in the Kentucky Derby Classic which was held in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky signee poured in a whopping 29 points in the effort. Also, Alexander grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists which led him to win a share of the Most Valuable Player award.
Alexander also took home the three-point shootout trophy. Maybe this kid along with Jemarl Baker will be able to hold down the fort when it comes to scoring on the perimeter. If John Calipari’s Kentucky Basketball team can somehow find a couple of consistent shooters, watch out world.

This Kentucky Basketball recruiting class still ranks No. 1 over all in all major rankings. John Calipari’s recruiting classes as the Kentucky Basketball coach have finished at number one or number two in final rankings each season. That bodes well for the future of Kentucky Basketball.
