Just before junior college signing day rumors started to swirl that professional wrestler Sting aka Steve Borden was touring the Kentucky football facilities. It was an intriguing mystery to most until a little digging turned up that Steven Borden Jr., the son of Sting, was a junior college tight end. A few days later, the younger Borden signed his letter of intent and faxed it to Kentucky. A relatively unknown tight end from Kilgore Community College, apparently he was on Neal Brown’s radar at Texas Tech and the offensive coordinator decided to bring him along to Lexington. We will have to trust him, as Borden only recorded 11 catches for 181 yards and four touchdowns last season. He certainly looks the part of a tight end who can not only block effectively but also use his big frame to muscle his way to catches. He may develop into a red zone threat given his production there in JUCO. Borden is already on campus and enrolled in classes, so he will have the added benefit of going through spring practice with the team, boosting his chances for playing time this fall. As a junior college signee, he currently has 3 years to play 2, meaning he does have a redshirt available if he needs it.
