5. How good is Calipari, really?

The age old debate can ensue: Is John Calipari a good basketball coach or is he a good recruiter? Do the two have to be mutually exclusive? There have been several instances this season in which Calipari has come under criticism from BBN, which is nothing new.

This season, however, Coach Cal seems to be fighting this team to do what he’s wanted previous teams to do, but it’s not working. If Cal doesn’t have a clear lottery pick, or multiple lottery picks, what kind of coach is he really?

After one of the worst offensive halves of the Calipari era, what adjustments did he make for the second half? When the Cats continue to get abused in ball-screen situations, what adjustments has he made?

For all the talent on this roster, the Kentucky basketball team continues to struggle. Is Calipari coaching basketball or is he just trying to coach his system? If he’s coaching basketball, why does it look identical to the X’s and O’s he’s used in previous seasons?

If he’s coaching to his system, why isn’t BBN seeing more adjustments when it doesn’t work? This team can absolutely make a deep tournament run. And Calipari is absolutely worthy of being a Hall of Fame coach. But is that Hall of Fame status more due to his coaching or his ability to recruit? Stay tuned for more…
