1. Offensive Identity

John Calipari is still searching and experimenting with the offense. Early in the game, Cal tried running the offense through Kevin Knox on the block. Knox didn’t look comfortable and forced up several bad shots.

In the first half, the Cats looked to isolate Knox and Hamidou Diallo on the wing, but the motion was stagnant and there wasn’t much space for Knox and Diallo to operate. Again, this led to some bad looks by the Kentucky basketball team.

Late in the game though, Calipari seemed to use more of a traditional motion offense. There was more cutters and the spacing was better. This led to some open driving lanes for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Diallo and Knox. I trust that Calipari will figure out this team’s offensive identity, but until that happens, BBN will have to live with some poorly executed games.
