Overall, the practice was incredibly up-tempo and quick. Running from field to field and on and off between reps. The guys looked much bigger and bulked up since the season ended and everything seemed a little faster and a little more physical. Stoops said they are getting more physical, but still not quite where he wants them, “its not like overnight we’re going to go in and manhandle people in the SEC…but I anticipate us being better.” This was the first practice with pads on and it wasn’t as rusty as I expected. As they clean things up over the spring I think the offense will really transform into that true air raid we have all been anticipating. I think the early enrolled guys, especially the high schoolers have a lot to gain this spring and the head start they got will really show come fall. I think the incoming guys still have a chance to make some kind of impact, however. This year’s team has added depth and size, which will make them more competitive in the SEC and you can see right away how the off season conditioning and meal plans have impacted their size and speed. We look quicker, bigger and more focused than ever. There were recruits at practice too, no one I recognized but I did notice several Lexington kids from Lafayette and Henry Clay around. It was also mentioned that they still weight lift 20 minutes after practice concludes. Once fall camp is over I think this team could be completely transformed from last season. I’m not saying this is a 10-win team, but it isn’t a 10-loss team either anymore.
