The Cleveland Cavaliers won the first pick of the 2013 NBA Draft and with that, they have the options of selecting Kentucky Wildcats center Nerlens Noel with the selection.

I reached out to the Cleveland sports media to get their thoughts as to what the Cavaliers needs are and whether Noel would be a good fit for the team.

“I think the Cavaliers will look long and hard at Nerlens Noel,” Cleveland Plain-Dealer beat writer Mary Schmitt Boyer said. “He’s the sort of defensive player new coach Mike Brown would love to have, if he’s healthy.”

“He’s the best fit for them, even though they’d have to wait for him to be ready,” said Tony Zarrella, the sports director at 19 Action News. Long-term answer, especially defensively…impact player. To me, he’s the clear-cut choice.”

Good morning, Big Blue Nation. It’s expected to be a rainy day in this neck of the goods but don’t let that stop yourself.

Shug McGaughey, a longtime Kentucky fan and Lexington native, won his first Kentucky Derby last night as Orb won the 139th running.

Due to the weather conditions expected on Sunday, the Wildcats decided to follow the old Ernie Banks motto of “Let’s Play Two!” on Saturday. Arkansas took the first game of the day but the Wildcats won the second game in the ninth-inning comeback. It was Kyle Barrett who hit the game-tying single up the middle. Zac Zellers would follow that with the game-winning single, scoring Matt Reida. The Wildcats won it 4-3 over #14 Arkansas. The Cats host Vanderbilt next weekend.

Some sad news relating to the Kentucky football team as it was announced today that junior safety Ashley Lowery was injured in a car accident. According to the police report, the junior had not been wearing his seat belt and was ejected from his car and landed 100 feet away. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

After Friday’s softball game was postponed at Alabama, the Wildcats played two games today. The 19th ranked Cats won the first game 5-0 behind the pitching of freshman pitcher Kelsey Nunley but fell in game 2 with a 14-0 shutout. The series concludes this afternoon.
