The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team  picked up a huge win tonight against number five ranked Florida. The Cats used three runs on 11 hits to push past Florida. With a series win this weekend in Gainesville, the Cats could tie Florida in the SEC standings. This win makes Kentucky 24-16 and 9-9 in SEC play.

The Bat Cats started Zack Brown on the mound today, and boy did he pitch well tonight. Brown threw seven shutout innings, struck out six, and allowed only five hits on the night. Brown was looking for his fourth win of the season and the Cats offense delivered. Brown has also thrown 15+ shutout innings in a row.

Dorian Hairston has had some great plate appearances recently. Dorian added two more to his resume today, tallying two RBIs on the night. Dorian’s first RBI came from a groundout in the top of the second that scored JaVon Shelby. Shelby tripled on the previous play.

Dorian also added an insurance run late in the game for comfort. Dorian once again put the bat on the ball, and came up with a two out RBI single in the top of the eight. Evan white scored on the play. Kentucky will need Hairston to step up and be a key contributor the rest of the season.

Another key player the Cats need to keep hot is Ka’ai Tom. Tom had yet another two out RBI( 21 to be exact), which scored Barrett in the top of the third. Tom has been seeing the ball better and better as the season goes along. Tom is looking to have another great series in SEC play.

The Cats bullpen did a fantastic job tonight, making sure Florida didn’t push a run across. Zach Strecker came in for relief of Zack Brown in the eighth inning. Strecker did his job and had a shutout eighth inning.

Kentucky’s next game is tomorrow at 7pm at Florida. Kentucky is looking to improve their SEC record to above .500.
