Kentucky got the ball first at the start of the game and looked promising driving down the field converting a 3rd and 6. Then Kentucky faced a 3rd and 2 and was tackled for a loss, and Kentucky went for it on 4th and 4 and the ball went through the hands of Blue. Turnover on downs.
On the defensive side Kentucky looked great. The run defense was able to hold them to only 5 yards and Kentucky forced a quick three and out.
Kentucky’s second offensive possession seemed like it was going to stall after UT Martins defense held Kentucky to a 3rd and 5 but Towels found his tight end for the first down. And then, the offense woke up. Towles found Blue for a 44 yard pass and set up a 1st and goal at the 2. Then on 1st down Jojo Kemp found his through a hole to score Kentucky’s first touchdown of the 2014-2015 season. Kentucky was up 7-0.
The defense looked good on their first possession but that wasn’t exactly the case on the second. The run defense was nearly non-existent. Giving up runs of 13, 6 and 6. However the defense held on 3rd and 5 and got a tackle for a loss.
It didn’t take long for the Nebraska transfer Braylon Heard to make his impact. On Heard’s first touch of his Kentucky career he ran it in for 73 yards.
On Braylon Heard’s second touch he ran for a 44 yard touchdown. Good to see from him. By the way, he’s fast, like really really fast. Kentucky’s defense continued to play great and even recorded it’s first interception of the year on a one handed pick by safety AJ Stamp. And the Kentucky offense turned that into more points on a 29 yard connection between Patrick Towles and Blake Bone Kentucky was up 28-0 and the second quarter wasn’t even 10 minutes old yet. Patrick Towles found Dorian Barker for a 9 yard touchdown. Kentucky would lead 35-0 at half
