We are down to 20 days until kick off for the University of Kentucky Football team! How exciting is that?
With only 20 days to go, I’m going to recap on of my favorite memories for UK Football.
The spring blue-white game is something we usually go to as a family. Usually it’s not very crowded and you get better seats than you would during the season. It’s a fun day, low key day for families in the Big Blue Nation. That all changed in 2013.
This was the first one under new head coach, Mark Stoops. The fans knew there was a change surfacing within Lexington, and boy were they excited. And they had every right to be.
There were more people at the blue-white game than I had seen at any home game besides the Louisville game since I started at UK. There was a strong sense of excitement and trust filling Commonwealth Stadium on that Saturday. The game was changing for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Fans had high hopes for the football team for the 2013-2014 season, but they knew not to set too high of expectations. It was Stoops first year at Kentucky and the roster was full of players he didn’t recruit and didn’t really know. Fans knew it was going to take some time. But they were still excited.
I’ll never forget the feeling inside Commonwealth Stadium that Saturday in April 2013. It was one of the best football related feelings I’ve ever been apart of. That is want Kentucky Football should always be like. There shouldn’t ever be an empty seat in the crowd. There sure weren’t many for the spring blue-white game. Jump aboard the football teams bandwagon. It may not be this year, or next year, but their time is coming. They’ll be great very soon. We just have to be patient.
