Good morning Big Blue Nation and a Happy Fourth of July to you. There is not a ton of news circulating this holiday weekend, but it is interesting to note that on this Fourth of July a weekend, a 2016 recruit could be making moves to free himself of his Indiana Hoosiers legacy.
2016 guard Eron Gordon is the brother of current NBA player Eric Gordon. Another brother Evan, also played for the Hoosiers and the Hoosiers have had a scholarship offer on the table for Eron for at least a couple of years.
Eron is a four star SG who is currently the 38th best player in the class (per Rivals). He does not have an offer from Kentucky, but he will be in Lexington on Sunday.
And while the lure of IU may be big, one wonders if his friendship with Trey Lyles can be thicker than blood.
Gordon spoke to the Herald-Leader in May about his friendship with UK freshman Trey Lyles and said he watched the Wildcats several times last season.
“I like how their main mindset is winning and nothing else,” he said. “I think that’s the problem with college teams: There’s a lot of different mindsets. I think when everyone has the same mindset, then they can accomplish more.”
It’s still early but the fact that Kentucky will be the preseason number one team and the Hoosiers are coming off a season where the NIT spurned them could be a factor.
Come on Eron. Walk away from the dark side.
