#17 ALEX MONTGOMERY
MEET ALEX MONTGOMERY
Alex Montgomery had originally committed to Wake Forest before turning around to sign with the Cats once Mark Stoops had been hired. Rated as a 3-star WR by both Rivals and ESPN, Montgomery was one of the top receivers to come out of Florida in his class. He led Cypress Bay to the 8A State Finals during his senior and sophomore years, respectively. Montgomery finished as a first team all-state wide receiver in 2012.
AS A WILDCAT
Montgomery played in nine games last season, tearing his ACL in the ninth game against Alabama State. Up until that point, Montgomery had at least one reception in each game. His best games were against Miami (OH) (4 rec, 37 yds) and Florida (4 rec, 47 yds). His only touchdown came against Louisville, which was also the only game in which he started.
Montgomery has shown he has tremendous potential and speed. However, recovering completely from his injury is his first priority. He is limited, as he will not be cleared for full contact practice until August. If he is able to play at 100% by the second week of the season, look for Montgomery to compete for a starting position.
#88 AJ JOHNSON
MEET AJ JOHNSON
AJ Johnson is one of a few Cats that makes a difference on the field but behind the scenes. As a member of UK’s practice squad, he is at every practice. At 6-foot-2, his size allows him to compete with other members of the receiving core.
AS A WILDCAT
Johnson came to UK from Foothill CC, where he had eight receptions, 74 yards, and a touchdown during his only season there. He has spent the past two seasons at UK on the practice squad.
