The University of Kentucky Wildcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals are bitter in-state rivals. Every year, they have one regular season matchup, and occasionally meet up a second time on a much bigger stage in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats leads this overall series, with a record of 32-15 over the Cardinals. Since the arrival of John Calipari to Lexington, the Wildcats are 6-1 against the Rick Pitino led Cardinals. This makes the rivalry all the more intense, as Louisville fans are itching for a win against the Kentucky Wildcats. Well, in a game that holds so much bitterness and hard feelings, this years matchup will provide some good coming out of the two powerhouses colliding.
The two teams will meet up on December 27, 2014 in Louisville’s Yum Center. The time has yet to be determined, but is has been announced that the game will move from CBS to ESPN 2 this year. Another change in the game is how it is being marketed, as this year it is being dubbed the “Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout.” What is the reasoning for the change? This year’s regular season matchup will be donating a portion of all sales in relation to the game to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, which runs as a nonprofit organization. This kind move brings a little good out of a very bitter and hateful rivalry.
While there is still six months until the most anticipated early season matchup on both teams schedules, it is time for fans from both sides to start thinking about getting tickets and showing up to support both their team and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Of course, this shouldn’t be too difficult, as there are only a few things on the minds of Kentuckians year around. Horses, Bourbon, and Kentucky Wildcats Basketball.
