MEET REESE PHILLIPS

Last season in 2013, Reese Phillips redshirted as a freshman.  Even though injuries constantly nagged at the team’s quarterbacks last season, the coaches were able to resist the temptation to play Phillips and successfully redshirted him.  Although he may not be the first choice for the starting quarterback position, he will certainly be in the mix and give himself a chance for some playing time in the 2014 season.  Phillips demonstrated impressive poise and accuracy in practice during his redshirt season.

AS A WILDCAT

As previously stated, Reese Phillips was redshirted as a freshman and is now returning as a redshirt freshman.  Since he does not have any playing experience as a Wildcat, it will be highly interesting to see if he earns any playing time in the upcoming season.

I am expecting Reese Phillips to contend for a backup quarterback position throughout the 2014 season.  Patrick Towles and Maxwell Smith will have most likely improved in the offseason and be the top contenders for the starting quarterback position.  Since they both have more experience than Phillips and freshman Drew Barker, I expect either Towles or Smith to claim the starting role.  Furthermore, unless injuries plague the quarterbacks again this upcoming season, I expect Towles and/or Smith to remain the starters for the entire season.

At the beginning of the upcoming season, I think Phillips will be the No. 3 quarterback, with Barker behind him.  If Towles and/or Smith do not play well during the course of the season, I can definitely see Phillips earning a great amount of playing time.
