ESPN released their new 2015 rankings today, and something Kentucky fans aren’t used to happened today as our lone recruit Charles Matthews fell all the way to number 30 in their latest rankings. As many know Matthews has already made a verbal to the University Of Kentucky.
Kentucky at this time of the season never has a lot of recruits already on board for next season as most of the elite guys wait until they see who is coming back the following season, but Kentucky recruits never really drop that much like Matthews did today.
ESPN doesn’t have the best scouting service in my opinion because those guys they have never go to big time event, and if you’re already committed to a program I feel like they look away from you most of the time. Evan Daniels is updating his for 2015 this week I think, and that is where you need to watch where Matthews ends up.
Another Kentucky recruit fell today as well, and I have no explanation why; but Malik Newman who many consider the best guard in the class fell a couple spots.
Newman has had a huge EYBL season, and recently dropped a cool 38 on a Duke recruit which many Kentucky fans wanted during the early recruiting period.
Like I said earlier I wouldn’t worry too much about the ESPN rankings, but keep a close eye on scout.com’s coming out this week.
Some other Kentucky news for this upcoming season is John Calipari confirmed Willie Cauley-Stein should be cleared by August 10th, but will not play in the summer games. Shouldn’t worry anybody either as Cal and his staff aren’t going to risk his health so early in the season.
