After a break through season with the LA Lakers in which he averaged 15.7 points a game, Jodie Meeks is coming home to Lexington. Meeks, is finishing what he started in 2006. He will be receiving his college diploma.
Meeks spent three years as a Wildcat and scored a total of 1246 points. He left after his junior year, in which he averaged 23.7 points a game, including dropping 54 points on the Tennessee Volunteers. Meeks was drafted in the second round by Milwaukee but only played 41 games for the Bucks. He was traded to Philadelphia midway through his rookie season and played the next two seasons as a 76er. He averaged 10.5 points in 2010-11.
Meeks found his way to Los Angeles two years ago and started 70 games for the Lakers this year. He also hit a career high 162 three pointers. Meeks is poised to cash in on his season as he will be a free agent this summer. And in keeping a promise to his family, he will do it as a college graduate.
Jodie will speak to the press in a press conference at UK at 1:30PM today and you can watch it live below. I’m sure he will be asked if he regrets not sticking around to play his senior year for John Calipari, but as evidenced this year, his decision to go pro paid off.
Congrats to Jodie and welcome home.
