Kentucky Wildcats Basketball: Let The Speculation Begin

It’s officially off-season. Everyone knows what that means, speculation begins.

Whether its speculation about a Wildcat transferring, the starting lineup or Coach John Calipari packing up and moving to Los Angeles, the speculation is real and it isn’t going to end until the answers are set in stone.

John Calipari just had his hip replaced, not even a week ago and rumors are flying that he is going to be considered for the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Here are a few reasons I wouldn’t believe this until he has stepped off the plane in Los Angeles and bought a home.

  1. His son, Brad, is going to be going into his senior year of high school this fall. He is on the Lexington Christian Academy basketball team and seems to be a pretty happy kid, based on his Twitter. Calipari wouldn’t be making the best parenting choice to make his child move across the country the year before he graduates high school.
  2. He has more All-Americans on his roster for next season than the Los Angeles Lakers do.
  3. He just had hip replacement surgery, do you really think he’s going to be able to move across the country by next season?
  4. He’s at his dream school, he’s happy.

I fully expect to see Calipari stay at Kentucky for the next few years.

There were rumors that to be sophomore Derek Willis was looking to transfer from Kentucky. Willis, a highly recruited high school senior from Mount Washington, Kentucky, didn’t see much playing time this season for the Cats. However, there was no way Willis could’ve assumed he’d be seeing a lot of it with a roster so heavy, he knew exactly what he was getting himself into.

Willis has taken to Twitter to say he is staying at Kentucky, but that doesn’t always mean it’s true, he was trying to keep his name out of the speculation. There is a chance he could be looking to transfer, but I highly doubt it is happening, and if it is, he deserves to be wherever he wants to be.

The most fun speculation has to be the starting lineup for next season. The commits haven’t even made it to campus yet and people are already judging who is going to be sitting on the bench and who is going to be playing. That’s crazy. There is a possibility that there will be a different lineup in each game at the beginning of the season, just to see what works best. That’s what happens when you have such a deep team.

Let the speculation continue, have fun.
