With the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs finally finished, John Wall and the Washington Wizards look to cause a major upset in the second round against the 1 seeded Indiana Pacers. Well, Monday night the Wizards did just that and took game 1 of this 7 game series 102-96. While the Wizards only had 15 points from their bench, 12 coming from Drew Gooden, this team stood tall when the Pacers looked to make a big comeback in the 4th.
Former Wildcat John Wall had a 13 point, 9 assist and 5 rebound night which was not one of his best but he hit clutch free throws to end the game that did the Pacers in. The big story of this game though was the play of Wizards forward Trevor Ariza who had 22 points and more notably hit 6 out of 6 three point attempts. All 5 starters for the Wizards went for double digit points in this one and second year guard Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 25 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. For this team to continue on against the Pacers they will need more production off the bench from veterans Martell Webster and Andre Miller like they had from Drew Gooden tonight. With the back court of Beal and Wall this team looks to wreak complete havoc to the bigger and slower guards from Indiana and they did that tonight. Game 2 will be at 7 pm on Wednesday in Indianapolis as well and the Wizards would love to have a 2-0 lead going back to Washington.
