A few quick hits from today’s spring game. While the team was far from being at full strength, they did their best to make due and showcase themselves to the 40,000+ fans in attendance. The games wasn’t without flaw, as there were many moments during the game that players missed assignments or dropped lean passes. Part of this was due to the fact that the depth of the team is no where near where the coaches want it to be. This will come with time, but for this season, depth will be an issue once again. Now, let’s get to the breakdown.
Patrick Towles started the game, which showed that he was leading the battle coming into this game. Of course, the distance of this lead is something that is unknown, as the coaches have stated that nothing is official until they say it is. Having said this, Towles certainly looked like the it was his to lose. Reese Phillips looked like the second best quarterback on the field, as Drew Barker looked like the high schooler he still is more than the other two. The running backs on the team also flexed their muscles, as they were the heart of the offenses and kept drives going by their elusiveness and speed.
The defense seemed to struggle at times, although this was in part to having the quarterbacks off limits. They did, however, manage to get four “sacks” and one interception. The key to the season will rest on the defense being able to get pressure on the quarterback and forcing them into decisions they’ll regret. For now, however, let’s get to some stats on the game and let the analyzing begin!
