My apologies. I misread the NBA Playoff bracket. Wall and the Wizards open up against Chicago. Patterson, Hayes and the Raptors will face Brooklyn in round one. Again, I apologize for the oversight. VH
John Wall and Patrick Patterson have the same goal and will have to go through one another to accomplish it. Both men will be trying to help their respective teams get to the second round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs. Postseason success has been rare for both clubs.
Wall’s Washington Wizards and Patterson’s Toronto Raptors have both been playoff spectators since 2008. Washington hasn’t seen the second round since 2005. Toronto’s lone series win came way back in 2001.
Toronto holds the edge in the number of former Kentucky Wildcats on each roster. Chuck Hayes is there in Toronto alongside Patterson giving the Raptors a 2-1 lead over Wall. Hayes is the only one of the three with playoff experience having played in 26 postseason games from 2007-09 as a member of the Houston Rockets.
There is also an old school flavor to the coaching match up. Dwane Casey won a title while at Kentucky alongside Jack Givens, Randy Wittman was on the Isiah Thomas led Indiana squad that won it all in 1981.
As more and more Kentucky players enter the draft playoff battles like the one we will see between Wall and P-Patt will become even more commonplace.
