Ever since the season ended in a heart breaking loss just five days ago, the Big Blue Nation has been on edge with the impending mass exodus. It has become a yearly thing under John Calipari, a routine of sorts for fans to sit and wait until players make their decisions. Well, that time is upon us once again and is significantly more muddy than years past. This year, there can be anywhere from two to seven players that leave, which had the fan base hanging on every rumor out there. Well, hopefully they won’t have to wait to much longer, as Kentucky’s stars are back home with their families to discuss their futures as we speak.
As of now, we can all assume that Julius Randle and James Young will go barring any pleasant surprises. This is where it gets a bit muddy. The Harrison twins have been rumored to be gone all year. While their draft stock dropped a bit before rising in the tournament, they still appear to leaning toward declaring, although nothing is official until they announce. Willie Cauley-Stein has been rumored to leave all year long, although recent comments make many believe that he will return to school for a third year. This would not really be a surprise, as Cauley-Stein really seems to enjoy school.
The last two decisions are the most intriguing, as there is a draw between wanting the money now and coming back to improve draft stock. These two players are Alex Poythress and Dakari Johnson. Both could stand to come back a year, as both could potentially become lottery picks if they do. If they were to leave, it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but it would certainly be a surprise. My personal prediction? We lose Randle, Young, and the Harrisons. While not ideal, it could be a lot worse. Hang in there Wildcat fans. Everything will be coming to an end soon.
