2014 NCAA Basketball Tournament: Florida Gators 62, Dayton Flyers 52

The number 11 seed, the Dayton Flyers beat Ohio State and Syracuse to meet the  the Florida Gators this evening in Memphis, Tennessee in the game that would send one of the two teams to the Final Four.

The Flyers gave the Gators all they could handle, but fell short, losing the game 62-52. The beginning of the second half seemed to be a game changer for the Flyers, they caught up to the Gators, but as always, the overall number one seed Florida Gators always had an answer. Even when the Flyers went on a 6-0 run in the beginning of the second, it wasn’t enough to get a handle on the Gators. Throughout the second half, the Flyers seemed to be running out of fuel. They had zero offensive rebounds and 11 missed shots, while on one play, the Gators had at least 4 different chances, all due to offensive rebounds.

Scottie Wilbekin led the Gators with 23 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists and 3 steals to put the nail in the coffin for the Flyers phenomenal season.

A huge difference within the game was who saw the free throw line the most. The Flyers only had 8 free throws, making 6 of them. On the other hand, the Gators saw 28 free throws and made 21 of them. Huge difference for the two teams. One positive aspect for the Flyers, they were able to outshoot the Gators from beyond the arc, 44.4% to 33.3%.

The overall number one seed, the Florida Gatorsare now headed to the Final Four. Tomorrow they will learn who they will face, the Spartans of Michigan State or the Huskies of Connecticut.
