Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell’s latest television advertisement features a video clip of Duke celebrating their 2010 tournament win, a bit ironic when running for office in the state of Kentucky. The tragic mistake could not have come at a worse time for the Senator, as it seems to show his lack of support as the Wildcats enter the Sweet 16. The ad was intended to show Kentucky’s dominance, but it seemed to have the opposite effect. When the team realized, they quickly corrected their mistake although they replaced the video with footage of Julius Randle. Unfortunately for the Senator and his staff, this presented problems, as they had neither Randle nor the University’s permission to use this video clip. According to UK spokespeople, the University has sent a cease and desist letter to the Senator and his staff, prohibiting them from further using the footage, or using any unpermitted material of student-athletes.
