The 2014 SEC Tournament has officially started as the 13-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks roll past the 12-seeded Auburn Tigers, 76-54 as they advance the 5-seeded Arkansas Razorbacks tomorrow. The Gamecocks were good from beyond the arc today. But, both teams struggled on turnovers. The Gamecocks success however start in the first half.
In the first half was all South Carolina as they went into the locker room up eight, 38-26. Senior guard for the Gamecocks, Brenton Williams lead the way in scoring as he scored 16 of South Carolina’s 38 points. Williams shot 4-6 from beyond the arc during the first half as well.
However, Williams wasn’t the only one contributing to the Gamecocks’ half time lead, Duane Notice came off the bench to 12 points. Between Williams and Notice, they combine from 28 points at the half. That means the rest of the South Carolina team only contributed for 10 points the entire half.
Both teams turned over the ball 10 or more times. South Carolina turned the ball over 10 times in the first half and Auburn turned the ball over 11 times.
Second half started out with neither team shooting very well and turning the ball over. The Gamecocks continued to dominate against the Tigers as they never looked back in the entire second half.
The Tigers kept the Gamecock’s Williams quite in the second half. However, in his absence, Sindarius Thornwell stepped up big with 10 points.
Auburn’s Chris Denon and KT Harrell lead the way in scoring with 14 points by Denson and 13 points by Harrell.
A positive note for Auburn though, Denson passed one of basketball’s greats on Auburn’s all-time scoring list,
Denson passes Charles Barkley for 23rd all-time in scoring in school history, the senior now has 1,185 points after a pair of free throws.
