*SEC TOURNAMENT – New Orleans, LA
Coming into this season, Kentucky fans envisioned a perfect SEC season culminating with a win at Gainesville. That dream for perfection is still alive, but it is the Florida Gators with the big zero on the right hand side of their SEC ledger.
The earlier game at Kentucky was what we expected for about thirty minutes with both teams trading blows like heavyweight fighters. UK was looking to knock the Gators out with a seven point lead, but Florida was nearly perfect down the stretch. The Gators scored on their last thirteen possessions and ran UK out of Rupp in the 69-59 win.
Florida really has nothing to prove tomorrow. They have a number one seed locked up and could finish with a ridiculous six game SEC lead. The Gators have won 22 games in a row and while they have been tested, are a very solid clutch team. Kentucky, on the other hand is desperate. A loss will likely send them to a six seed or worse, while a win likely can help lock up a #4 seed. It does not sound like a lot, but that is a huge difference in the path to a NCAA title.
What will win out? Florida’s poise or Kentucky’s desperation? That’s why they play the games. With that said, let’s meet the Gators.
