The Kentucky Wildcats went on the road and won another game in the SEC. This time it was an 84-70 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels on Feb. 18. After watching them limp through their last two road outings against Mississippi State and Auburn it was nice to see them pounce on Ole Miss pretty much from the get go.
ESPN commentators Brad Nessler and Jimmy Dykes feared for the safety of the rims at Tad Smith Coliseum. Kentucky was getting to them and punishing them at will. At its largest, the Kentucky lead ballooned to 22. However near the end, Ole Miss finally saw some fruits for their fight as they made it a two possession game at 76-70 with less than two minutes to play.
Big Blue Nation was a little divided in its thoughts on this. Some grew a little concerned, some were never worried. Some were disappointed that others fussed about the lead dwindling to single digits.
Everyone is absolutely right. No one crossed any lines by saying or doing anything ridiculous. Coach Cal may have provided the perfect cue for everyone. Cal had one of his more animated evenings on the sidelines in a while, especially facially.
He saw the same thing we saw. His team had worked and executed well in building the comfortable lead and then played it a little to cool and given Ole Miss more second half life than they should have. It’s all well, and it ended well as UK closed on an 8-0 run. Now everyone can get back on the same page as LSU (16-9, 7-6 SEC) rolls into Rupp Arena on Saturday and Kentucky looks to get even.
