The Kentucky Wildcats escaped Alabama Wednesday night with a 64-56 win that was anything but pretty, as both teams shot a combined 35-of-110 from the field (31%).

It was nice to see UK put in one of their better defensive performances they’ve had in a road game, and the 56 points they held Auburn to was the lowest point total UK has held an opponent to in a road game this year.

Needless to say, head coach John Calipari had plenty of criticism of his team’s effort during the postgame press conference, but he did praise the efforts of his young team to overcome a slow start and close-out Auburn late in the game:

Point guard Andrew Harrison and forward Julius Randle were made available after the game to talk about getting another hard-fought road-win:

The Cats will be back in action Saturday against the No. 3 Florida Gators, who sit atop the SEC at 11-0, two games ahead of UK. No one expected UK to play well s. Auburn with the Florida matchup looming over their shoulders, and this will be a do-or-die game in terms of winning the SEC and staying alive in the race for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
