Coach Stoops and Coach Marrow are both from the Youngstown, OH area and they were able to head back home to recruit Tymere Dubose.

Luckily for them, his high school coach happened to be one Brian Marrow, Coach Vince Marrow’s brother.  After spending the majority of his time focusing on basketball, Dubose was recruited to play football by his high school coach and took to the gridiron for the first time in the 2012 football season.

After only one season of football and an impressive showing for the coaches, Dubose was offered a scholarship to play football at Kentucky prior to even starting his second year of the sport.

There will undoubtedly be a learning curve for him to master before he can be counted on to play big minutes in the SEC, but the key with Dubose is going to be patience.

At 6’6 and 265 pounds he is still athletic enough to be a force on the basketball court and that athleticism will likely make him a nightmare for opposing offensive linemen to block.

While he is unlikely to be a major contributor in the 2014 season, he could be an absolute force before his time in Lexington is done.

Here is an excerpt from ESPN’s evaluation:

Flashes a good initial burst, but inconsistent and will play from a two- and three-point stance and needs to improve his stance when hand on the ground.

Looks top possess a bit of a high-cut build and displays some tightness in movements.

Dubose is a kid with good natural size. He moves around the D-Line in high school, but with additional mass, his skill set looks better suited for an interior player.

Needs to keep developing aspects of his game and learn to better and more consistently maximize his natural ability.
