Weight: 228 lbs.

Another January enrollee, Horton is already on campus and will go through Spring practice with the team. This obviously increases his chances to contribute as a true freshman.
On paper he looks like a power back who wouldn’t fit this Kentucky offense a la DyShawn Mobley but Horton is faster than he looks and is adept in the passing game. Look for the coaches to get him involving in a variety of ways.
There has even been talk of lining Horotn up as an H-back/tight end who can run, lead block and is dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield. As the only big back on the roster, it is very unlikely that he will redshirt as a freshman.
Recruited by Ohio specialist Vince Marrow, Horton chose Kentucky over numerous offers, including national champion Florida State, Cincinnati, Louisville and Vanderbilt.
An assist in Horton’s recruitment goes to former teammate and UK freshman Kyle Meadows. Following his commitment, Mikel was one of the most active recruiters on Kentucky’s commit list in trying to get other talent on board.
ESPN.com had this to say about Horton:
Horton has multi-carry ability when projecting for the college level and could be a productive workhorse if he lands in a downhill system. He has deceptive feet and athleticism for his size
